NEW YORK, April 30, 2010 – The Christophers announced eight winners today in their Twentieth Annual Poster Contest for High School Students.
Each year, students – grades 9 through 12 – are invited to create a poster that visually interprets the theme, “You Can Make a Difference.” This year’s contest drew over 1,400 entries from high schools across the United States and around the world. “We’re always thrilled by how many students participate and put serious thought into ways they can make the world a better place,” said Nick Monteleone, the contest’s coordinator. “Their enthusiasm is inspiring.”
Environmental conservation, adoption and global poverty were among the issues most examined this year. Students employed a wide range of media, including drawing, painting, collage, photography and computer art.
The $1000 First Prize was awarded to Kimberly Bicknese, a senior at Coffee High School in Douglas, GA, whose computer-painted poster illustrated a person using an umbrella to shelter another from a storm.
Alyssa DeYoung, a senior at Central Wisconsin Christian High School in Waupun, WI, took the $500 Second Prize for her photo-based collage asking the viewer to “Care for those who cared for you.” The Third Prize of $250 went to Brielle Mears, a freshman at Dell Rapids High School in Dell Rapids, SD, for her reminder that “It’s never too late…” to make a difference.
Five other entrants were chosen to receive honorable mentions of $100 each.
