What’s for Lunch?

That’s a question you’ve probably asked or answered many times. But for the 48 percent of Boone County, Indiana, students on a government-subsidized lunch program this question is especially vital during school breaks.

With the help of churches and local organizations, money is collected, and food is bought and packaged for the What’s For Lunch? program which provides five lunches each week from the start of the summer until the new school year begins.

Ingrid Temple, chairwoman of the Shalom Community, said she had heard about children going hungry once school was over and even having to ask for food. It was time for a change. What’s for Lunch? fulfills the meaning of Shalom’s name, peace, by encouraging people from different faith traditions to cooperate for a worthy cause.

Help needy children can be as easy as packing lunches!

Come, you that are blessed by My Father... for I was hungry and you gave Me food, I was thirsty and you gave Me something to drink. (Matthew 25:34,35)

Jesus, living and life-giving bread, how can I help remedy the scourge of hunger in this nation and around the world?
