Sr. Zelide Ceccagno visits The Christophers

On May 30, The Christophers were graced by a visit from Sr. Zelide Ceccagno, MSCS, Westchester Regional Director of the Archdiocese of New York’s Catechetical Office. Sr. Zelide had an opportunity to meet members of our staff and tour our new Hanover Square location, during which she extended an invitation to The Christophers’ staff to attend the upcoming Catechetical Convocation to be held on Saturday, September 27 at the Westchester County Center in White Plains, NY.

The annual event – which coincides with Catechetical Sunday, designated by The U.S. Catholic Bishops for the third Sunday of September each year – includes a liturgy, workshops, exhibits and presentations for those involved in religious education and catechetical ministries. This year’s theme is: “Encountering the Living Word.”

Sr. Zelide is a member of the Congregation of the Scalabrinian Missionary Sisters, a congregation originally founded in 1895 to minister to the needs of immigrants and refugees. Over the years, the congregation has extended services and missionary activities to include catechesis, Christian education, hospitals, and centers for social services and pastoral care. Today they are present in 28 countries, including the United States, Canada, Mexico, India, Indonesia, and The Philippines, as well as throughout Europe and Africa.

“We were honored by Sr. Zelide’s visit,” said Christophers’ vice-president Mary Ellen Robinson, who acted as Sr. Zelide’s host and who has represented The Christophers at past Catechetical Convocations. “She, along with her fellow sisters, truly embody The Christopher spirit of service to God and others.”
