“It all started when I was 11 years old. We were at a family party and my dad slipped a little bourbon into my Coke and it tasted good and… it felt good,” says Ginna G. By the time she was 15, the teen was smoking, drinking, eating and “inhaling anything” to ease the pain of her parents’ divorce.
A decade later, realizing that she was drowning in her addiction, Ginna smashed her stash of hidden liquor bottles and drug paraphernalia. Screaming for help, she took a deep breath and suddenly seemed to smell the lingering scent of her dead grandmother’s perfume. It brought back loving memories. Ginna was sure she heard her granny say, “Everything is going to be all right.”
“I knew… that I had just had a spiritual experience and that I would be okay, because I really did have a guardian angel,” she explains. “God revealed her to me when I needed her the most.”
Ginna hasn’t had a drink or used a drug in 13 years. “But it’s one day at a time,” she says.
