The Christophers would like to extend our warmest thanks to all those who remembered us with donations during the Christmas season. It is truly inspiring to know that our mission is close to your hearts. We’d also like to extend an invitation to all our Christopher friends during this 75th anniversary year of our organization to write in to us at firstname.lastname@example.org with thoughts and remembrances of what our outreach has meant to you and those in your life.
Lent begins this month, and this is a time of year when we are called to self-examination in preparation for the celebration of Christ’s Resurrection on Easter. But this period we devote to bettering ourselves does not need to be a gloomy time of year. It is a time when we might renew efforts at outreach to those whom we know are in need, and we should approach that mission with joy in our hearts. Because when we bring joy into our service, we enlarge the gifts we give by sharing the light of Christ with all those we encounter.
We open this month with the Feast of Saint Blaise on February 3, and many parishes around the country will offer the Blessing of the Throats, an ancient sacramental stemming from devotion to Saint Blaise. What a wonderful way this is to pray for health during this time of year when afflictions of the throat can be so common.
We also celebrate the Feast of Saint Valentine on February 14, and this is such a perfect time to remember those dear to our hearts, especially spouses, fiancés, and those whose company we cherish. It’s a great time to renew our commitment to being selfless and pure of heart in all of our relationships. In this way, we can open our hearts and allow God to work through us to affect the lives of those we care for in profound ways.
May the light of Christ touch the hearts of all our Christopher friends during this time of year so that we are guided to act in inspired ways to change the world for the better. God Bless!
