July 2019
Dear Friends,
This past month, on June 30, Father Edward M. Dougherty, M.M., celebrated his 40th anniversary as a priest. Father Dougherty is the model of a humble priest and we feel privileged to have him working with The Christophers today. Among his many contributions as a priest over the years, Father Dougherty has served as a missionary to Africa and as the Superior General of the Maryknoll order. The Christophers congratulate him on this wonderful milestone and wish him many more years of health and happiness in service to Christ.
This month, on July 8, we celebrate the feast of Saint Maria Chaira, a missionary to China who was martyred at a young age during a crackdown on foreign missionaries around the turn of the 19th century. Let us pray that she intercede for the people of China today and especially for the Chinese Catholics.
On July 14, we celebrate the feast of Saint Kateri Tekakwitha, patron of the environment and ecology. As a native of the Americas, she presents a model of one who maintained a strong love and devotion for her people and their way of life while also undergoing a complete conversion to the Catholic faith. Let us pray that she intercede for all people of the Americas to grow in faith and love for Jesus Christ. The Christophers hope everyone enjoys a happy Independence Day and a wonderful start to the summer season. Our One Minute at a Time Prayer Card provides a great meditation during this time of year when it’s important to remember to relax, enjoy life, and reflect on the things that really matter. It’s a great one to share with friends and loved ones and to read and think about in the quiet moments of summertime.
Thanks for the lovely notes of encouragement from our donors. Your words lift the spirits of our staff on a regular basis, and we are so grateful for your regular communication and support. God bless!
